Foundation Course Descriptions - Distance MBA

Introduction to Accounting: ACCT 559, 3 credit hours
MBA foundation course.  Intro to concepts, principles and practices used in the preparation of financial statements for business enterprises, with emphasis on asset and liability valuation and presentation, income determination and the statement of cash flows.  Also includes an introduction into accounting practices such as cost analysis, budgeting, and other techniques used in the planning and control of business enterprises.  Includes the use of spreadsheets.  Distance MBA course.  Tuition differs from on-campus courses. (On-campus equivalent: ACCT 550)

Macroeconomics for Managers: BUAD 559, 3 credit hours
Development of economic skills and knowledge of the modern capitalist economic system.  Emphasis on tools of economic analysis, the functioning of the macro-economy, the growing influence of the international sector on the macro-economy and the role of technology in forming a “new” economy.  Students learn to analyze simple market events, understand and interpret key macroeconomic variables, analyze the effect of both domestic and international events on the domestic economy, understand the government’s and the Fed’s role in the economy, and understand how technological change may be driving the formation of a “new” economy.  Distance MBA course.  Tuition schedule differs from on-campus courses.   (On-campus equivalent: BUAD 550)

Business, Government, and Society: BUAD 569, 3 credit hours
This course examines the interdependence of business with societal, governmental, and economic environments. The role and balance of responsibilities between business and government, the nature of the free market system, current public policy issues, and external trends affecting business are explored. Distance MBA course.  Tuition differs from on-campus courses. (On-campus equivalent: BUAD 560)

Fundamentals of Business Statistics: QUAN 559, 3 credit hours
An introductory course in business statistics.  It covers descriptive statistics and such topics as frequency distributions, graphs, and tables.  It also teaches the essential elements of experimental design and common inferential statistics such as correlation, regression, t tests, and analysis of variance. Distance MBA course.  Tuition differs from on-campus courses. Prerequisite: A working knowledge of Excel.  (On-campus equivalent: QUAN 550)
